1st Web
Site
Web Site
requirements to
receive a C grade:
(After each requirement, you will see the number of pts you will receive
for
each one. Each of the points will be subtracted from your total grade,
if you
don't complete each of the requirements. If you feel that one of the
requirements, doesn't work on your particular site (i.e., special code,
float a
graphic, then add it to the requirements page.) Use this page as a guide
to
link to each of the requirements in your web1 so I will know
where to
find each requirement.
- The web site must be submitted to
the assignment dropbox, so I can copy the site. I will not grade it
from a
posted site you may have on the web.
- Create a directory called web1.
Place all your files in this directory. 2 pts.
- All filenames must be in lowercase
and no spaces in the filenames. 2
- Use only legal characters (meaning
no !, -, ^, $). Use only a-z, 0-9, and _
underline.
2
- Points will be deducted if files are
not named with these conventions. Your home page must be named index.html.
Most web site hosting companies will create a directory for your web
site, and
then you can upload your web site to your directory. By naming the
main or
home page, index.htm, the server is pointing automatically to a file
named
index.html. By naming your file, index.html I will know which file to
open
first. 2
- Review p.
183 "Above the fold." Make sure your index.html page is above the fold.
2
- Above the
<head></head> tags, include your doc type, xml, and
transitional information. See p. 28. Include this on each
.html page. 4
- When you have finished the site, you
will create a directory with your name then place your web1 directory
under it
to hand in as follows: lastname_firstname,
i.e.,
lambert_suzanne (all lowercase, if you run
out of
room for your directory name, use your last name, then underscore, and
as many
letters of your first name that will fit. 2
- One page with 5 links to multimedia
library sites (must be sites for video, graphics, animation, sounds
that you
could use in multimedia projects, a library of graphics, etc.) and 5
links to
your favorite sites. Create a link from index.htm to this page named
Links.
This doesn't count as one of your 5 pages for the site. If you want to
actually use this as a site late, you would simply delete this page.
10
- (Menu) links to all of your pages.
Make sure you include alt tags for all of the menu
links. Include the menu on ALL pages. 4
(My main Navigations links are text links using CSS hover properties without images, consequently there are no alt tags.)
- Make sure you include tags for at
least one special character (accents for name, copyright, fractions,
trademark
...). 2
- Include tags for color using rgb
values, color names, and hexidecimal
numbers (at least one of each). 6
- Resolution must be set to a maximum
of 1024 x 768. 2
- Must work in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox,
or Safari or other Browsers if you work on a Mac as
well.
- The site should include minimum 3
pages about you or a company. The links page (multimedia and
favorites) (does
not count as one of the 3 minimum pages) and does not have to be on
the same
topic as your site. If you are doing this for a business, you would
simply
delete the links page. The links will just show me that you know how
to do
research and find useful multimedia sites. Your site should attract
attention
and be inviting so visitors will want to return. It must be
attractive, well
designed, and it must work.
- Include at least 3 text style
elements (font family, style, weight, type, height, transform,
alignment . .
.) in your pages. 4
- The graphics must be sized
appropriately and include width and height for all graphics. 2
- Email address. 2
- Use good contrast between background
and colors of text. 2
- Create 2 lists (bullets and
numbered) at least one of each. 4
- Important: Include this
page that
you can link to from the index page that will tell which page you have
included all the required elements. I.E.: embedded style on index.htm;
list on
history.htm (whatever you name your file); multimedia library on page
multilib.htm; email address index.htm; tags for a special character on
page4.htm. You can name the page require.htm. Place the link to this page
on the
index.htm page. A few of the numbered items on this page will not need
links
i.e. for 1-6, I will verify that these items are correct so no link is
required. As an example for no. 20, select bullets and link it to the
page in
your site which includes bullets. For numbered, select no. 20 the
word,
numbered and link it to the page which has the numbered list. This
page does
not count as one of the 3 required pages. Use this
assignment page as a guide and
simply link each of the requirements to the location in your web site.
This
will make it easy for you to verify each requirement and easier for me
to find
each one. If you do not include this page with a specific link to
the
location of each
requirement, -10 pts.
(Use this page and simply select each item and link to it. Do not
create a page and list no. 3 on history page, 4 on index, 5 on
mypage.html. You can use Dreamweaver or Word to Open this page, then
link to requirements on this page. All other pages, you will be creating
with TextEdit or Notepad. You do not need to link to nos. 2-5 as I will
find those. But do link to everything else so that I will know where to
find it.
- Use a background image on
one of the pages using a style for background (color, image, repeat,
attachment, and position). 6 (background images repeats etc. used in header and nav bar on all pages)
Web Site
requirements to
receive a B grade:
- The links must work when I receive
the site, and they must be multimedia library sites not just
multimedia you
like (see discussion on multimedia sites). Create a separate page for
the
library sites and your favorites, then later if you want to actually
use your
site, you can just delete this page. This does not count as one of the
3, 5,
or 7 pages (You have read this at least 3 times so remember the Links
page is
just to show me the library pages and your favorites). Make sure you link to
this page from your main (index.html) page.
- All of above
- Site must be business oriented
(doesn't need to be on a business--just look good). Ask yourself,
Could I get
a job with this web site? The site can be on a hobby, for school,
work, any
topic which interests you and can be shown to everyone in the
class--no
offensive topic.
- Must
include an embedded style and an inline style. Create a link to both of
those from here so I will see which pages in your site use an embedded
style and an inline style. 5
- Must
include a style to float a graphic on one of the pages. 2
(My image floats are done using div tags and CSS floats)
- Must include 5 pages instead of the
3 above. 3
Web Site
requirements to
receive an A grade:
- All of above and 7 pages instead of
5. 3
- Include
a footer which has a copyright and your name on all pages (if you place
this in the CSS file and link it to all pages, it will be places there
with correct font, size, and other info). 2
- Include
an External CSS page (place your name and date as a comment at the top
of this page) linked to one or more of your pages. Include a class
selector, and id selector, div and span elements. 5
- Business (hobby, school, fun--must
just look professional) site (find one on the web or make up a
company)
- Everything has to work.
- Sell yourself; impress me.
Grading
system:
- Each of the
requirements (above) lists the points for each item
for a total of 90 pts.
- Accuracy formatting, alignment of
text appropriate, centered text only when appropriate, bullets left
aligned,
paragraph text left aligned. Accuracy--spelling, punctuation. Check
possessive
form. Quotes" ." or," always go outside periods and commas. Use codes
for
quotes so they will look like smart quotes, apostrophes, accents on
names, and
any other special character. Accuracy is extremely important. Have
someone
else check your site for accuracy. 5 pts.
- Professional, layout impressive,
graphics appropriate and attention-getting, colors appropriate, page
set up
for maximum 1024 x 768, eye-catching. Background effective with good
contrast
with text--must be easily readable. Text size must be appropriate.
Business
(look professional--could be hobby, school, church, your interests,
but must
look good) site. Can be a site about you, but it must look
professional.
5 pts.
June 14 for an A; June 16
for a B; June 17 for a C. (5 pts off for each day after June 17.)
Of course, turning in the
Web 1 Assignment on June 14, doesn't
give you an A. You must include all requirements above. The site will be
graded
on criteria listed. To turn in the assignment for the online course, you
must
zip the files. Submit the zipped file to the assignment dropbox.
Total points for
1st web site = 100 pts.
Bonus 5 pts.
Validate
each of your web pages and the CSS page. Make any changes necessary to
fix your errors. Resize the pages to show only the validated page
information with correct data or (errors if you cannot fix them).
Capture a Scrn Prt, then paste into Word (or whatever program you
have). Resize so page is readable. Capture all pages and continue
pasting images into this document. Save the file as validatedsml.doc.
Use your initials in place of mine (sml). 5
When I grade your
web site, I
will be looking for each of the requirements. It is very important for
you to
create the page which links to each of these requirements. To check
yourself to
make sure you have completed each requirement, go down the list and
check that
each requirement is in your web site and that you have it linked on the
require.htm page. These instructions will also serve as the grading
form. I will
look for each one in your web site. If I don't find it, the points for
that
requirement will be deducted from your grade. Reminder: include require.htm
which links to each requirement.
